Paula Kouwenhoven continually reviews and revises her art. It is a process of continuous research into tension and balance within colour, contrast and composition.
Her canvases are composed of powerfully expressive layered structures. She incorporates her own perceptions of signs from the past. We may identify themes such as excitement within a landscape, symbols, primeval figures and fetishes.It is never Kouwenhoven’s intention to impose anything on anybody, instead the spectator will identify with the work and experience very private emotion.
Rather than questioning her art simply makes interpretation possible.
